Another Shakespearean play, adapted and produced by the National Broadcasting Service, is to be broadcast from 4YA,' Dunedin, on Sunday night next at 9,5 p.m. This is the tragedy of Richard 11, a play that shows among many other things Shakespeare's masterly handling of history for dramatic effect. The play deals with the exile of Bolingbroke by King Richard and the former's invasion of England while the King is absent in. Ireland followed by the surrender of Richard to Bolingbroke and the subsequent murder of King Richard. Listeners who have enjoyed the previous N.B.S. productions of Shakespearean plays will find that this presentation has been attempted with' considerable care and that little is lost by transferring Shakespeare's plays from the stage to the radio.
"When the Twain Have Met" is the title of a New Zealand play to be broadcast from 2YA on Monday night at 9.5 p.m. The setting of the play is during the time of the Maori Wars, and there is good drama as well as local interest to hold the attention of listeners. The play has been produced by the National Broadcasting Service and is adapted by W. Graeme-Holder from a play of the same name by Charles Box.
Three dramatic features are set down for IYA on Monday night. The first, at 8 p.m., is the sixth episode in the entertaining serial "The Exploits of the Black Moth." It is followed at 8.32 p.m. by another thrilling melodrama in the series "The Old Time TheAyter," entitled "The Innocent Wife" or "Truth Will Out." At 8.45 p.m. the fourth episode of the radio dramatisation of Mrs. Chalk's famous novel, "John Halifax, Gentleman," will be given. These three presentations make up an hour of entertaining radio fare. For Tuesday night at 8 o'clock, 3YA, Christchurch, is to give another episode of "Singapore Spy." This serial is proving extremely popular among listeners.
"Desert Justice" is the title of the tenth episode of "Into the Light," the N.B.S. production, which is to be heard from 2YA on Wednesday night. This is followed at 9.32 by another "episode of "Soldier of Fortune."
