IMPORTANT CHANGES

A number of important military appointments have been approved by the King. Lieutenant-General W. K. Venn ing becomes Quartermaster-General to the Forces at the War Office, and Lieuten-ant-General W. D. S. Brownrigg, military secretary to the Secretary for War, becomes Director-General of the Territorial Army, succeeding General Sir Walter Kirke.
Lieutenant-General R. H. Haining takes the Western Command, and is replaced by Major-General G. G. H. Barker, at present director of recruiting and organisation at the War Office. Major-General Barker's appointment is temporary, with the rank >f Lieutenant-General.
The new military secretary to the Secretary for War is MajorGeneral G. J. Gifford, with the rank of Lieutenant-General.
