DAMAGE BY TUG

FEDERAL LINE'S CLAIM

AUCKLAND, December 6.

The damage to the Federal Line's motor vessel Essex, which was fouled by the Auckland Harbour Board's tug Te Awhina on August 11, amounted to £1026. The board received a letter from its solicitors stating that in their opinion the board was liable for the full damage caused to the Essex. Instructions were given by the board to its solicitbrs to pay the amount without prejudice in full settlement of the company's claim

Salvaging and reconditioning of the Te Awhina cost £7500, which has been paid out of reserves. The board's insurance and other reserve funds, which are invested in Government stock and in mortgages, total £148,500
