I The popularity of the weekly card parties of the Kilbirnie auxiliary branch of the Returned Soldiers' Association is still being maintained, there being a record attendance at the clubrooms, Bay Road, last night. The games were much enjoyed, also the supper served by the ladies' committee. Mrs. H. Q. Bruce, president of the ladies' auxiliary, referring to the effort of her committee and helpers for money for comforts for the soldier inmates in Porirua Hospital, stated that as a result of the sum realised, over £8, they had been able to supply each soldier patient with a parcel of comforts. Mrs. Bruce stated that she had received grateful acknowledgements from the medical superintendent and several of the patients. The winners of the various contests were:—Bridge, Mrs. E. Duncan and Mr. D. Gunn; "500," Mrs. R. Brewer and Mr. C. Cooper; competitions, Messrs. C. Kraus and Charles Cooper. St. Mary's College Garden Party. A most enjoyable garden party was held recently at St. Mary's College, Hill Street. The Rt. Rev. Monsignor Connolly introduced Mr. C. H. Chapman, RIP., who exhorted those present to respond generously to the appeal for funds for the construction of new tennis courts for the use of the pupils of the college. Mrs. Chapman was presented with a basket of roses by the senior boarder, Babette Dean. The Sisters desire to thank all who in any way contributed to the success of the function.
