MANCHESTER UNITY

Loyal Kilbirnie Lodge.—Bro; W. J. Courtney, Noble Grand, presided over the quarterly meeting. An invitation was received from Combination Lodge to Christmas social. Visitors from Sister Wallis and Petone Lodges were welcomed. The following officers were elected: —Noble Grand, Bro. C. Forbes; Vice Grand, Bro.* C. Howard; elective secretary, Bro. P^Foote; warden, Bro. F. Jackson; guardian, Bro. J. Wood; conductors, Bros. B. Wickens and L. H. Levy; auditor, Bro. Cull; dispensary Bro. L. H. Arcusi Petone Lodge challenged Kilbirnie Lodge for the Cropp Buttons, and the game resulted in the buttons being retained by Kilbirnie 5 * , Loyal Petone Lodge.—The quarterly meeting was well J attended. Bro. R. Wade was the presiding officer. There was a discussion oh the appropriation of the surplus and a resolution was passed in respect to a request to be made to the district. -The District Grand Master was' present with various other officers of the district executive for the purpose of installing lodge officers for the ensuing term as follows:—Bro. Marshall, Noble Grand; Bro. Horsham, Vied Grand; Bro. Raine, elective secretary; Bro. Seddon, warden; Bro. Foofe, guardian; Bro. Mikos, conductor; Bro. Wade, immediate past Noble Grand. The District Grand Master addressed the lodge in relation to the operation of the Social Security Act so far as" it affepted friendly society members.. - ' Loyal Rose of the Valley Auxiliary Juvenile Lodge (Lower Hutt).—At a recent meeting several new members were admitted. Bro. Ivan England acted as Noble Gtfand in the absence of the usual chairman. The District Grand Master, Bro. Jorgensen, .and Bro. Holt installed, the officers for >tha ensuing term as follows:—Noble Grand, Sister Audry Studholme; Vice Grand, Sister Joan Akers; elective secretary, Sister Jeanette Cheeseman; warden, Bro. Noel' Taylor; conductor, Bro. Fred Paulin; assistant conductor, Sister Jessie Chapman; guardian, Bro. Franklin; 1.P.N.Q,, Bro. Fergusson. There were also 'present the Noble Grand and : secretary of Masterton, Juvenile Lodge and members from the adult lodge at Masterton.: The superintendent was thanked by the D.G.M. for his splendid work -in the juvenile movement. The District Grand Master, Deputy Grand Master, and District Trustee installed the following juveniles:—Noble Grand, Sister Norma Brown; Vice Grand, Sister Jessie. Wilton; elective secretary, Bro. Daniel Davey; warden, Bfo. L. Lee; conductor, Bro. L. Lee; &uardian,^ Sister N. Ackerman; . Immediate -Past Noble Grand, Sister M. Prout. The superintendent, Bro. Morris, advised;he was presenting a shield competition between the Lower Hutt and Masterton Juvenile. Lodges The Masterton juveniles were complimented on the manner in which the officers carried out their duties. The Noble Grand presented the District Grand Master with a bouquet and thanked her for coming from Wellington to install the officers. The D.G.M. replied and expressed appreciation of the very, happy way in which the district officers had been received. Bro. Seddon (superintendent) and Bro. Ivan England, of the Lower Hutt Lodge, were also cordially welcomed. At the close of the meeting items were given by members, including tap dancing by Bro. .Daniel Davey. Mention was made that tne Noble Grand, who had that night been installed, was one of the original members of the lodge?when it opened about six years ago. -_ Loyal Antipodean Lodge.—The quarIteiiy meeting was held recently, Bro. T Nelson, Noble Grand, presiding over a large attendance. Sick pay amounting to £60 13s 4d was ordered Jo be paid. Bros. Tomlinson (City of Christchurch Lodge) and Sheat (Morrinsville Lodge) were welcomed, aro. Pillar tendered his resignation as sicK steward of the Thorndon ward, the' iresignation being accepted with regret. |Bro. Wishart was appointed to fill we ! vacancy. Officers to fill the various . chairs for the next period jere^elected as follows:—Noble Grand, Bro. McClellan; Vice Grand, Bro. Gnffin;. elective secretary, Bro. Wilson; garden, Bro. Wood; guardian, Bro. Woplfe; conductor, Bro. McAllister; assistant conductor. Bro. Billing; social secretary, Bro. Griffin; Press reporter, Bro. McClellan. Special mention was made or the annual reunion arranged for late in December, and an appeal was made 'by the N.G. for full support of members. A discussion took place on the recently declared quinquennial surplus, and a committee wasuformed-to deal with the matter. AfteV lodge, games were enjoyed by all members.
