ITALIAN TUB-THUMPING
CLAIMS TO FRENCH COLONIES
GERMAN SUPPORT

LONDON, December 6,
The Rome correspondent of "The Times" says that the tub-thumping articles about Italy's territorial claims have disappeared from the newspapers. Perhaps it was felt that their continuation would be too bold a challenge to Lord Perth's message to Count Ciano. The only echo of the campaign against France is the receipt of messages from Berlin showing that Germany supports the claims, and also from Tunis and Ajaccio describing attacks against Italians. It is hoped that the new tone means that Italy realises that her tactics might wreck Mr. Chamberlain's visit to Rome.
