At the same time the weather improved, 7.4 hours of bright sunshine being recorded^ The maximum arid minimum temperatures were 59.8 and 45.8 degrees respectively. Between 4 and 7 a.m. today 15 points of rain fell, but the weather cleared again soon afterwards and became bright and warmer.

In Christchurch most of yesterday was sunny, a fresh but decreasing southerly wind keeping temperatures on the cool side, the maximum being only 58.1 degrees, with a minimum of 49 degrees. Showers last night totalled three points of rain, but the weather this morning was fair again with a north-easterly breeze.

Dunedin had a fine and sunny day with a moderate north-easterly wind. By this morning, however, the weather had become unsettled again, ten points of rain being recorded at the Heads.
