ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
AUTOMOBILE ASSOCIATION
REPORT
Road improvements in the Wellington district were the subject, of comment in the report presented to the monthly meeting of the executive of the Automobile Association (Wellington) last night. There were present Messrs. E. A. Batt (chairman), H. W. Shortt, A. J. Toogood, E. H. de J. Clere, A. G. Warburton. E. Palliser, E. P. Hay, and the secretary (Mr. W. A. Sutherland). "Since the last meeting of this committee, the City and Suburban Highways Board has given general approval to the proposal to widen the Hutt Road between Ngahauranga and Petone," the report stated. "The matter now awaits the further attention of the City and Suburban Highways [Board, which has called fpr a report and estimates from the City Engineer, and it is understood that this report and the estimates will be presented to a meeting of the local Highways Board on December 7." Certain proposals had been made to extend and alter parking bylaws in the city. The roads committee was in touch with the position and hoped to be able to discuss the matter with representatives of the City Council before any alterations were made. The roads committee wished to place on record its appreciation of the very good work which had been done on the Haywards-Pahautanui Road. As a result oi the work done by the Public Works Department that road, with the exception of two or three sections which were still under reconstruction, was up to first-class standard and would* meet a substantial traffic demand during the approaching holiday season. The financial statement showed that subscriptions paid during* November totalled £1662 lGs.^ ■&;■;■ ~.-»*: is
