WELLINGTON'S CHALLENGE

On Saturday the Mayor and members of the local campaign committee sent out a challenge to other centres that Wellington would maintain the longest record without road fatality from the hoisting of the pennant at 9 o'clock this morning. Christchurch and Dunedin are both willing and return challenges were received today from the Mayors of those cities.

In the event of a fatality the pennant will be lowered to half-mast for one day then rehoisted, with a black pennant beneath it to show that the record has been spoiled.
