THE NAZI PARTY

WEALTH OF CATHOLICS

REPORTED PLAN FOR FINES

(Independent Cable Service.)

(Received December 5, 9.30 a.m.)

LONDON, December 4

"Reynolds's News" declares that Germany, having confined the Jews to the ghettoes, is at present preparing to attack Catholics, casting covetous eyes on their wealth, and planning a "line" to redeem their churches and church property. The paper quotes a recent speech by Herr Rosenberg, director of the Foreign Office of the Nazi Parly, in which he said: "The Catholic Church and also the Protestant Confessional Church in their present form must disappear from the life of our people."

The "Sunday Pictorial" declares: "The Nazis are attempting to blackmail the Pope into withdrawing his anti-Hitler propaganda by threatening the life of Dr. Schuschnigg, who is gravely ill in a one-roomed prison at the top of a Vienna hotel."

It is believed that the Pope was preparing an encyclical before his recent illness denouncing religious and racial persecution.
