CAMPAIGN'S PROGRESS

TOUR BY SECRETARY

[ "The National Committee of 'Swimming and Life-saving has undertaken a big effort this year, but feels confident that the task can be accomplished and that the number taught to swim during the period of the campaign will justify the confidence of the Government in our organisation," says the general secretary, Mr. N. A. Ingram, in the course of a circular to district committees on the subject of this season's "Learn to Swim" campaign. Recognising that tne campaign will require the greatest degree of co-opera-tion between district and national secretaries and the respective committees in the matter of organisation, the committe has decided that, subject to the necessary leave being available, the general secretary should undertake as wide a tour as possible within a specified period. The following itinerary was agreed to, subject to alteration:— ' . ■ , December 8, Napier; December ,9, Gisborne; December 10, Rotorua; December 12, Hamilton; December 13, Palmerston North; December 14, Wanganui, December 15, New Plymouth; December 16, Wellington: December 19, Blenheim; December 20, Nelson; Dej cember 21, Westport; December 22, Greymouth; December 23, ChristI church. Provision is to be made for a visit to Timaru, Ashburton, Oamaru, Dunedin, and Invercargill by an official to be appointed by the committee. Auckland has not been included, as jMr. W. O. Stockley is visiting Wellington this weekend in connection with the conference of coaches. i COACHES CONFER. J The conference of coaches from different parts of New Zealand opened in Wellington on Satufday. Members of the committee were present. Part of the work to be done by the coaches at this meeting is the completion of the pamphlet, 300,000 of which are to be printed for distribution to all pupils in schools and colleges. The members of the committee are to confer with the coaches concerning an itinerary for the coaches to enable them to pass I on a knowledge of v the teaching methods to be used to the volunteer instructors. ■ It has been decided to approach the Railway Department on the subject df conveyances for coaches, instructors, and district secretaries who might have to travel, and also for members of the committee travelling in connection with the campaign. The design! of a sticker for correspondence was approved, the design being in the form of a lifebuoy about the size of a fiveshilling piece, with the words "Learn to Swim" in the centre. The number to be printed is 250,000.
