LEAGUE OF MOTHERS

MELROSE-HOUGHTON

VALLEY

The Melrose Hall was gaily decorated with flowers on the occasion of the final meeting for 1938 of the MelroseHoughton Valley branch of the League of Mothers. Bright incidental music, played by Mrs. McAuly, welcomed members and friends, including a representative from the Island Bay branch. ,

Mrs. Mexted, president, gave Christmas and New Year greetings, and all joined in singing carols and ''Land of Hope and Glory."

Mrs. SelJen presented a varied and enjoyable programme. Miss Bennell, accompanied by Mrs. Bennell, sang sacred solos. Elocutionary items K by Miss Henry and Miss Myra Flan were greatly appreciated, as also were songs by Mrs. Hubbard. The Houghton Valley Play Circle, under the direction of Mrs. G. Gunn, cheated much merriment with an amusing skit on husbands ;and wives, "Man Wants." Flowers were presented to the performers in appreciation of ■ the enjoyment they had given, and Miss Myra Flan received a box of chocolates. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mrs. Sellen.

The committee for the afternoon, Mesdames Chapman, Calnan, Martin, Robinson, and Wiltshire, served an acceptable afternoon tea.
