SAVE THE NATION

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —Your timely leader in last Wednesday's "Post" on "Party or All?" emphasises clearly the disruptive forces that are at work in the Government of our own little country, without going to Europe to find them. When Ministers of the Crown are dominated by divergent ideas at one and the same time in the cases you mention, such as "the Government is fighting for the workers and fighting capitalism," and "as a party we represent Labour but as a Government we represent the people," this lack of co-operation in the Government itself must spell disaster for the people. To be quite frank, we must all recognise this fact, in spite of what we may be told by Ministers of the, Crown, that New Zealand is drifting, and that neither the leaders of this country nor those at Home appear to be able to check the drift. We must therefore sink all our personal and party differences, and dispense with them altogether, in favour of an entirely new system in which every individual is an entirely separate and independent unit freely giving of his best for "All" and not for "Party." It is now a case of "Save the Nation,"' which v/as the appeal of Abraham Lincoln in his time when war threatened between North and South of the U.S.A., and the same principle applies in New Zealand today. Party must not compete or contest with party, but all must join willingly in a great cause which will be a means of protecting lesser interests. —I am, etc., T. F. SIMPSON.
