TE MONOWAI'S FORM
NGAKARU AN IMPROVER
(Special from "Early Bird.")
AUCKLAND, December 2. Te Monowai nearly brought off a big surprise at Te Rapa a fortnight ago, and she will probably be one of the fancied candidates in the sprint event on the same track at the Waipa Meeting a couple of weeks hence. It has taken her a little time to strike form, but she is still handily placed in. the handicaps and her turn may .not be far off.
Noitaro is now receiving big weights among the hacks, and it looks as if she will be better placed if allowed to take on open company, or to cover the southern holiday meetings. However, she is a nice filly and much better than her record indicates.
JSTgakaru is another hack who should not be long in getting his second winning turn, for he ran a fine race at headquarters last Saturday after being a sufferer from the interference that occurred a furlong after the start of the hack sprint. Even then he ran on more generously than usual.
Mon Acre is a northern galloper .of whom big things have been] expected at various times, but to date he has not been within measurable distance of the reputation accorded him. However, in the sprint at the Waikato Meeting he gave a taste of what he -is really capable of by filling fourth place to Llangollen, Te Monowai, and Phil court, and as that was a finish of the liectic order he could not have been a length away from the winner. On that showing he should go close to winning a race shortly. A youngster that has been running very fair races among the northern two-year-olds is Sir Lysander, who in his one start at Te Rapa last month finished third to Valerian and Foxmond, although some lengths behind them. At Ellerslie last Monday he had his next outing and did well to finish fourth after the hot pace the leaders set. for he was being k,ept up to his task throughout. • Byl the Absurd horse Lysander his dam is Queen Arausio, by Arausio from the King Soult mare Gortyn, dam of Sabatini. He should be easily the best of his dam's progeny to date. A likely youngster seen out at Ji,ilerslie was Brazen Bold, who raced in the well-known colours of Mr. R. B. Hines, of Te Aroha. This two-year-old was prominent last Saturday and although he weakened at the end of his outing his showing was sufficient to indicate that he -will be numbered among the winners with more experience. He is a colt out of Ridicule, by Absurd from Cheloma, dam of that good galloper Nincompoop, winner of the A.J.C. Breeders' Plate at Randwick.in 1924. Four of Cheloma's progeny were named in Australia, and one of them was the Leighton filly Lady Seaborn, who subsequently" produced to Heroic that promising handicap horse High Sea. a double winner at the last Waikato Meeting.
Nominations for the Manawatu Racing Club's Summer Meeting to be held on December 24, 26, and 27, are due at 9 o'clock on Monday evening.
