LONDON MEAT MARKET.
The Bank of Australasia has received the following cable, dated December 1, from its London office: —Frozen lambs: During the month supplies of both Australian and New Zealand light weights prime quality have been very scarce and prices firm. Supplies of secondary lambs rather more plentiful and at the beginning of the month prices declined. Latterly, however, the market improved owing to shortage of prime quality. Frozen mutton — owing to large stocks the market is dull and depressed, for ewes especially. There has been rather better feeling recently but not sufficient to affect values. Frozen beef: Supplies limited, prices firm. The Bank of New Zealand, produce department, has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business this week:—There is a better inquiry for wethers. The market for ewes is quiet and unchanged. The market for lambs is steady. Both demand and prices for chilled beef are steady. Wethers, light 4£d to 4|d per Ib, heavy 3|d to 4£d; ewes, 2Jd to 3d; lambs, B's 7 5-8 dto 7M, 4's 7 l-8d to 7£d, seconds 6£d to 6 5-8 d; chilled hinds s|d to 6d, fores 3£d to 3fd.
