WAR VETERAN'S DEATH

(Special to the " Evening Post.") AUCKLAND, This Day. A veteran of the Egyptian campaign in 1882, Mr. Alfred George Edwards, died yesterday at the Auckland Hospital. He was born in London and was in his 80th year.

Mr. Edwards joined the 3rd Battalion of the Rifle Brigade in 1878 and later transferred to the 19th Hussars. In 1882 he served in Egypt for the campaign in which the British under Sir Garnet Wolseley fought the battle of Tell-el-Kebir and restored order. After being in Egypt for a short period he contracted fever and was invalided back to England. In the same year his brother contracted fever in Egypt and died there. Mr. Edwards arrived in New Zealand about 12 years ago.
