HAWKE'S BAY WOOL

AMERICAN DEMAND

NAPIER RESULTS

(By Telegraph—Press Association

NAPIER, This Day.

The Continent and Bradford, also— to a certain extent—America were active at the first Hawke's Bay wool sale of the season held at Napier yesterday. A feature of the sale was the return of Belgium to the wool market. Her spirited bidding acquired fairly extensive lots. Japan, however, was not in evidence, in sharp contrast to the prominence of that buyer in sales held in recent years. The selection of wool offering was" excellent, and it was generally considered to be the best clip seen in Hawke's Bay for some years past. There was a firm demand for the coarser grades of wool. America seemed to be more interested in smaller lots. Prices realised showed an increase of approximately Id per pound over those of last year, and a clear rise on those made at the Auckland sale. Results of this sale were reported to be fully up to the expectations of brokers, the bidding being ready and spirited. The top price realised was 14Jd for a good line of "B" wool entered by the estate of the late James Todd. It was a line of super medium crossbred of 46's to 48's counts. RANGE OF PRICES. The following is the official range of prices, based on average values, compared with prices realised at the first Napier sale last year:—
