"MERRIE ENGLAND"

An appreciative audience last night greeted the , choir of St. Stephen's Church, Lower Hutt, who gave Edward German's concert version of "Merrie England."

The conducter was Mr. O. Dyer and the chief characters were taken by Miss Olga Burton (Bessie Strockmorton), Mrs. Wilfred Andrews (Jill-All-Alone and Queen Elizabeth), Mr, Roy Hill (Sir Walter Raleigh), and Mr. Russell Laurenson (Earl of Essex). The solos rendered by these artists were greatly appreciated and the whole production reflects the greatest credit on the conductor.

Mr. Clement Howe presided at the Everett Organ and the pianist was Miss Conlin, L.T.C.L. The lady artists were presented with bouquets and all performers were entertained at supper afterwards by the ladies of the church. The proceeds of the concert will be devoted to the organ fund of the church.
