(By Telegraph—Press AsFociatum. NAPIER. This Day. Values fully firm on Auckland1 rates ruled at the first sale of the Napier! series today. A catalogue of 24,000 bales was offered to a full bench of buyers. Competition was keen, particularly by Continental and Bradford operators, who dominated the market. The quality of the clip offered was outstandingly better than for a number of years past owing to the excellent season almost throughout. Fleece wools were particularly long in staple and the values for these were up to 133 d per lb. ■ i A marked feature of the sale was the demand for coarse types of wool. One line of Lincoln cross sold at 13d. Crutchings also sold well, up to 9|d being realised for this class offering at the sale. The good season was reflected in the quality of the wools from the backcountry stations, much of the fleece off hard country selling at up to 12d. A good clearance w s effected, and passings were extremely few. It is estimated thai the result of | the sale will be over £350,000 distributed to farmers in the Hawke's Bay district. Last season was a particularly poor one for wool. It is estimated that this ; year's yield represents an increase of i 30 per cent.
