FASHIONABLE DANCE
PRELIMINARY DINNER PARTY
ATTRACTIVE FROCKS AND
FLOWERS
[ Almost all those who attended the ' dance held at the Mayfair Cabaret \ last night by the Wellington branches of the Woodford House Old Girls' and ■ tlie Wanganui Collegiate School Old 1 Boys' Associations had been to din- : ncr beforehand at the Grand Hotel. • Consequently the dance went with a > swing right from the beginning and there was no time wasted in "breaking ', the ice." ' The dance is held annually and- it is always one of the most fashionable 'of the season. There was a very ; large attendance last night Many ; very lovely frocks were worn, and i the decorations were charming. The t cabaret's divided dance room provided a convenient way of combining the cplours and crests of the two associations, one portion being bedecked with the Old Girls' colours of maroon and white, and the other with the light blue, black, and gold Of,the Old Boys' Association. Even the flowers corresponded as nearly as possible with these two colour schemes. Deep crepe paper fringes hung above, the corner alcove in each room and from the central crystal chandeliers wide streamers radiated to the walls which were adorned with large painted shields bearing the entwined initials of the respective schools. The flowers banked on the dividing partition were lovely. There was a bor* der of fceesias, polyanthus, small black tulips, and grape hyacinths arranged in long green china troughs, and behind were masses of daffodils with a background of red and white camellias. In the supper room there was a similar display. The colours of the two associations were used in flowers and streamers to decorate their respective tables. Hie flowers, were beautifully arranged in baskets and troughs, and streamers were crisscrossed on the tables, A home-made supper was served and throughout the evening liquid refreshments were served in another room. Sprays of flowers were presented at the dinner party to Mrs. Charles Marchbanks^ (president of the Old Girls' Association) and to Mrs. Philip Cooke, whose husband is president erf the. Wanganui Association. Mrs. Marchbanks was wearing a black lacquered satin gown and she pinned her spray to her black evening bag.
