VICTORIA LEAGUE BUSY
BRIDGE PARTIES GIVEN
Many activities are being indulged in by the Wellington branch of the Victoria League at present not only for the pleasure and interest of senior and junior "members, but also in order to raise special funds for the Dominion conference, which will be held in Wellington this year, and which it is hoped to make a particularly enjoyable function as well as useful in the way of stimulating the many varieties of work carried out by the league.
Afternoon and evening bridge parties were held yesterday in the Englishspeaking'Union rooms. Spring flowers were daintily arranged, and were enjoyed by all. Mrs. J. A. Doctor received the guests, wearing a smart blue ensemble, and was assisted by the convener, Mrs. Hugh McGill. Auction and contract bridge were played and prizes were given for both the afternoon and evening games. Mah jong was also indulged in. A delicious afternoon tea and a savoury supper were served.
Those who made up tables or assisted in various ways were Mesdames J. Spear, Sievwright, P. Brandon, D. Rodie, A. Cramond, O. N. Gillespie, A. M. Anderson, O. L. Williams, Harold Clay, Hayes, M. MacMorran, Carter, W. Gilbert, E. F.=Stevens, S. T. Walshe, L. F. Hunt, R. Bollard, M. M. Nash, R. Caughley, A. E. Good, A. B. Gibbons, Dickinson, Gordon Hanna, A. E. A. Palmer, Asche, A. E. King, Balfour; and Misses E. M. Black, C. Ormiston, Carter, Cook, C. Forde, Gibson, G. Norman Jones, I. Lockwood, J. Turner, P. Gledhill, Higginson. Several people made up tables in their own homes, among them being Miss Amy Kane, Mrs. L. O. H. Tripp, Miss L. Van Staveren, and Miss A. Evans.
