A BRILLIANT SPRINTER
Fremont is one of the best-looking horses yet imported to New Zealand, and his win in the S. G. Holmes Memorial at Methven on Saturday suggested him as one of the best shorfc-dis-tance pacers ever brought from America. He began very smartly, and his driver, R. B. Berry, had some difficulty in restraining him over the first two furlongs, but once in behind the leaders he paced like a champion racehorse and quickly discarded his pulling tendencies. It was not until, three furlongs from home that he was allowed to race up to the leaders, and once in the straight he quickly put the issue beyond doubt. He has a fine, bold style of pacing and speed that not many horses can produce. He has a splendid temperament, and his Southland owner, Mr. F. Wallis, apparently has in him a pacer that will win many good races. Fremont is only five years old to American time, so has most of his racing days in front of him.
