THE ROYAL AIR FORCE

(From "Tftt Post's" Represantatfve.) j SYDNEY, September 29. The Commonwealth Government will co-operate with the Royal Air Force in its spectacular attempt next month on the world's long-distance i flight record. The attack will be a non-stop hop from Ismaila, Egypt, to Australia. Five Wellesley aircraft/will leave England shortly, flying direct to Ismaila. After overhaul four of the| planes will leave on October 6 for Australia, following the great circle tracks between Ismaila and Darwin. The planes may land anywhere along the air-mail route between Darwin and Brisbane, and after a brief overhaul will proceed to Sydney. While the flight is crossing the Timor Sea, H.M.A.S. Swan will patrol at a point 250 miles north-west of Darwin to act as a radio link, and to render any other assistance required. The existing i on-stop record of 6305 miles Is held by Russia. The Wellesleys will break this if they reach Darwin from Ismaila without ah intermediate landing. The Wellesley type of aircraft is a' mid-wing monoplane, fitted witl_ an engine capable of 216 m.p.h. at 17,000 feet.
