(By Telegraph—Press Association.)
CHRISTCHURCH, October 5. \ A larger entry, particularly fat cattle, came forward for the weekly stock sale at Addington today. Fat, cattle showed a fall of 30s a head on! the exceptionally high rates of last week. The fat sheep entry was slight- j ly smaller, and good shorn wethers ■ rose by 2s a head, and good woolly I ewes by Is to Is 6d. The store sheep yarding consisted of about 2000 head. The entry of ewes and lambs was not particularly attractive, and did not sell so well, making to 13s Id, poor pens 6s tb 7s 6d, with medium ewe lambs 9s to 12s 6d. Hoggets made another good sale and values were fully up to last week's. A pert of nicely woolled hoggets sold to 14s 4d and a line of ewe hoggets to 17s 10d. Shorn hoggets again failed to attract competition and sold from 5s to 7s. The fat sheep entry was, slightly smaller than last week, comprising about 4250. /Quality generally was well up to the standard of recent sales. There was a keen demand for good quality sheep,, shorn wethers advancing 2s a head, but woollies showed little advance on last week. Ewes were up Is 6d a head for all classes. Quotations: — Sheep.—Extra prime wethers, 36s Id; prime heavy, 31s to 33s 6d; medium, 26s 6d to 30s; light, 21s; extra prime shorn wethers, 28s ldj medium to heavy 24s to 265; extra prime ewes 26s Id; prime heavy, 23s to 24s 6d; medium, 18s to 225; light, 15s. Quality spring lambs, better than usual, made a keen sale, and prime heavy lambs brought to 12s a lb with a * fraction more for mediumweights. The fat cattle entry, numbering 475, included more good quality stock than usual, and the big increase in the eni try was reflected by a lower scale of values on an average. Best light beef was easier and made to 255, heavier sorts 30s; heifers and cow beef 30s to 355. Nevertheless the sale was excellent and best beef made about 47s 6d and heavier quality to 45s a 1001b; best heifer beef about same rate and cows to 425. The fat pigs and porker entry was again on the small side, the large proportion being hard and unfinished sorts, and the sale from the start was about 2s a head better than last week. Over the race a further 2s to 3s was realised. Choppers were in good supply, but notwithstanding this the sale was fully on a par with last week.
