(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.")

AUCKLAND.. This Day.

Features .of the gallops at Ellerslie this morning were a brilliant half-mile by Kelly, five furlongs by . Marie's Acre and The Trimmer, seven furlongs by Russian Ballet, and Shy's good time over a round of the course proper, on which the poles were 45ft out. The going before breakfast was perfect, but as a result of rain that fell before the interval, the ground became a bit greasy. The Guineas candidate Russian Ballet ran seven furlongs in. lmin 30 4-5 sec. She went fast over the early part and was staying on at the end. Kelly finished several lengths ahead of Gay Son at the end of half a mile in 50 l-ssec. It was the best of the morning over a distance, and Kelly impressed by his effort. Ohmaha was clear of Electric Spear over half a mile in 52 2-ssec. Ohmaha put plenty of dash into his work. * Buccaneer and Gay Sister were on terms over three furlongs, which took 40 2-ssec.

Shy covered a round in __mm 58 4-5 sec, the last seven furlongs in lmin 35 sec, and the final half-mile in 54 l-ssec. He did his. work very evenly and finished in resolute style.

. The two-year-olds High Caste and Tableau reeled off half a mile in 52sec. The first furlong took 12 4-ssec, and High Caste finished clear of his companion. Birthday Boy and- Fidelis jumped away several lengths -ahead of The Trimmer at the five-furlong post, but the last-named beat them home in lmin 4 2-ssec. The other pair took lmin 5 2-ssec, but they had a bit in reserve. Nevertheless The Trimmer's effort was a good one. . ■ Te Hero was sent over six furlongs during the breakfast interval, and was timed by a private watch to run the distance in lmin 17 4rssec. He has fined down since racing at Avondale and is an improved colt.

Francis Drake strode round to the half-mile post and ran home from there in 52sec. He was running on very solidly at the finish and impressed by 'his effort.

After taking 39 2-ssec for her first three furlongs, Homily got to the end of six in lmin 20 2-ssec. She worked freely and had a bit in reserve. Coronation and Valroint went away slowly from the mile post.ahd came home in lmin 47sec. - Coronation finished clear of his companion, and ran the last seven furlongs in lmin 32 3-ssec *

The Mitchelson Cup candidate Kena was running on very solidly several lengths ahead of Crooning at the completion of their last six furlongs, which took lmin 20 l-ssec. Kena's performance indicates that he is a fit horse. Brown Lap was a number of lengths in front of Middle.after running seven furlongs in lmin 32 3-ssec. Middle was displaying signs of lameness -afterwards, but as that is a regular occurrence with him it may be discounted.

The best five furlongs' trial was that of Marie's Acre, who accounted for Philcourt by a narrow margin in lmin 4sec. They rail the first two furlongs in 25sec, and it was a good effort on the part of both horses.

Jayola had a lot of speed on when he went away from the six-furlong post and. he came home in lmin 20 2-ssec.

Quadroon was not set a serious task, working over a round on the tan track.
