LABOUR AND DEFENCE
"We have spent over £2,000,000 more on defence than our opponents ever did," said Mr. R. McKeen, Labour candidate for Wellington Souths at Berhampore last night. "Questions ar* often asked about the Government's defence policy. I want to say that the Government is continually in touch with the Home Government, and everything that is being done is being actuated from there. We are doing everything that is possible. They sent us out Group Captain Cochrane, a highly-qualified man. who is building u$ a force to suit New Zealand requirements. Nothing is being neglected. People are not being told what is being done, but that is unavoidable." Mr. McKeen had an enthusiastic meeting at the Masonic Hall, and received a vote of thanks and confidence, moved by Mr. H. Power. Mr. J. Thomson presided.
