TEN PEOPLE VOTE
POLLING BOOTH IN SHIP
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 4. Contrary to expectations, only ten persons voted at the special polling booth established in the liner Niagara before her departure for Vancouver today. • • • Most of the crew are on Australian articles and were not qualified to vote, but it was believed that a number of officers and about 30 of the 43 embarking passengers were eligible. The polling booth was open from 10 a.m. until about 2.45 pan., shortly before the Niagara sailed.
b! those who voted, two were officers and the remainder passengers. One of the passengers was blind and, in accordance with regulations, her vote was recorded by the deputy returning officer at her instruction. The votes cast will be forwarded to the electorates in which the voters are registered.
Heavier voting is expected on board the Matua when she leaves for Rarotonga next Tuesday. The crew totals 50, all of whom are on New Zealand articles, and there will be about 30 passengers. It is also expected that a considerable number of votes will be cast on board the Wanganella, which is leaving for Sydney on October 14.
