SECOND ROUND GAMES

The second round of the Wellington provincial amateur snooker championship was taken a further stage at Billiards Limited's showrooms last night before a large audience. W. F. Donnelley (Working Men's Club) defeated F. L. Stewart (City); L. M. Blundell (Commercial Travellers' Club) defeated his clubmate, J. Petley, and F. Wells (G.P.O. Social and Literary) defeated A. Armstrong (Federal).

Donnelley and Stewart concentrated rather more on safe play than on the spectacular, the good command and sound knowledge that both play-t, ers possess being mostly employed in" avoiding giving scoring opportunities. Donnelley won by 144 points to 97. Blundell arid Prtley provided bright snooker, marked by close scoring. Blundell was the winner by 97 points to 75.

The last match of the evening between Armstrong and Wells was also productive of good snooker, Weils making one break of 30, the highest so far in the championship. This at a critical stage gave him a definite advantage, and he won by 130 points to 104.

Tonight at 7 o'clock play will be continued, when J. Lee (Victory) will play D. Phillips (Paramount); at 8 o'clock H. Looner (Victory) will play A. Smethurst (Wellington Working Men's Club), and at 9 o'clock T. Garbett (Windsor) will play L. Moffat (St. George). -
