DUNEDIN MEETING

HORSES IN LIKELY FORM

(Special to the "Evening Post.")

DUNEDIN, This Day

The Dunedin Jockey Club's Spring Meeting, which opens tomorrow, will feature an important two-year-old classic in the McLean Stakes. The issue is not exposed even though Gold Salute and Brandon filled the placings in the John Grigg Stakes. Nigger Boy was not seen at his best on that occasion and he should be a lot harder to beat in tomorrow's race. Winning Rival comes from a stable renowned j for brilliant two-year-olds and may | start favourite. Janefield, though on j the small side, is a nice filly. She is trained by A. McDonald, whose brother, D. McDonald, won the race I with Compensate last year. Money- J more, F. Shaw's second candidate, is the. possessor of stamina. Defaulter looks like starting at a short price in the open sprint, and he will be an interesting runner in view of his being a hot favourite for the Dunedin Guineas. The track should provide an excellent surface, and betting will be under the win-and-place system. The following may be fancied in their engagements:— Spring Hurdles.—Mount Val, Delrain. Trial Handicap.—Colonel Rouge, Atwa Rere, Vallock. Maungatua Handicap. — Sparkle, Straightdell, Gay Vixen. Electric Handicap.—Defaulter, Janet Gaynor, Silver Streak. Mosgiel Handicap. -^- Last Refrain, Alma, Valantua. McLean Stakes.—Nigger Boy, Winning Rival, Janefield. October Handicap. — High Glee, Petersham. Taioma Handicap.—Density, Lord Nuffield, Straightdell. The card is:— 12.45 SPRING HURDLE HANDICAP, £150: XVs. miles.
