A SECRET MOVE
MOBILISATION OF ITALIAN
RESERVISTS
(Received October 4, 10.10 a.m.) ROME, October 3,
Newspapers disclose that Italy secretly mobilised 800,000 reservists during the crisis, making 1,400,000 under arms. They point out that the smoothness of the mobilisation methods enabled the move to be made without alarming the civilian population.
The reservists are now demobilising. It is revealed that the mobilisation occurred ■at the height of the crisis. The men reported to their regiments while the Munich conference was sitting. It was then too late to rescind the order immediately, and the War Ministry decided to see how quickly the mobilisation could be carried out. Demobilisation is to start on October 10.
