DOWN WITH MEASLES
OPERATIC SHOW POSTPONED
THE BLENHEIM SOCIETY
(By Telegraph.) (Special to the "Evening Post.") BLENHEIM, This Day. Owing to some 30 members of the cast of the Blenheim Operatic Society's production "Belle of New York" being confined to their beds through measles the society has been compelled to postpone the production, which was to have opened on Wednesday for several weeks. The society had no option in making the postponement for during the weekend no fewer than eight other members of the cast also contracted the infection. The costumes and scenery, which have been hired from Auckland, are required by the Christchurch Amateur Operatic Society for the same production this month and they will then be required at Palmerston North, where incidentally the epidemic caused a similar postponement a few weeks ago. ilt is probable that the Blenheim season | -will not open until the middle of next month. The high incidence of the epidemic I among members of the Blenheim SoI ciety has given rise to a theory that infection is carried in the costumes j secured from Auckland but this is discounted by the fact that they have, not been used by the Auckland Society for about three years and so could hardly [have been contaminated.
