COACH NOT YET APPOINTED

It was stated last, night at the meeting of the management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association that a coach had not yet been appointed for the Wellington Association this year but it was only a matter of time before such a step was taken. Mr. J. H. Phillipps (chairman) suggested that there might be a number, of younger players in the Mercantile League and Hutt Valley Association with sufficient promise to warrant their being coached when the appointment was made. He hoped the representatives would find the views of their associations on the matter. Mr. Young (Mercantile League) considered the offer to be a very generous one, and said that if such a scheme was inaugurated there might be some contribution by his body to the coaching fund. The Hutt Valley representatives were of a similar opinion. : It was decided to inform the University Club that its application for the coach's services would be considered when the coach had been appointed. CHAMPIONSHIP SCHEME. The junior championship committee brought down a scheme whereby a senior reserve grade should be constituted, to relieve the present position of teams in the second grade. 'The proposal was generally regarded by members as a move in the right direction, but after considerable discussion it was agreed that insufficient notice had been given clubs to put the scheme into practice this year, but at a later date it will be decided if the change will be made next season. The junior championship committee will hold a special meeting, tomorrow and will bring down a further proposal regarding the grading of teams in this year's competition at the next meeting of the management committee on Monday. ■ ' It Was pointed out that only one club had yet sent a list of defaulters for the past season. Members were of the opinion that defaulters should be dealt with seriously. With the large number of cricketers seeking games this year they considered that something should be done to see they had preference over any defaulters. / The Women's Cricket Association made application for the use of- the Basin Reserve on December 31 and January 2. It was decided to reply stating that their application would be borne in mind when the season s programme was being drawn up.
