ANIMAL LOVERS
PARTY AT BISHOPSCOURT
Forget-me-nots, symbol of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, predominated in the lovely flowers which had been arranged in the drawing-room of "Bishopscourt," the home of the Rt. Rev. H. St. Barbe Holland, Bishop of Wellington, and Mrs. Holland, at a party which they gave last night.
Held as an opening to "Animal Week," which will continue until Friday, the party took the form of a musicale, and was most successful. Mrs. Holland, with Miss Robson, hon. secretary of the' S.P.C.A., received nearly 100 guests, all of whom were vitally interested in the society.
Grape hyacinths, stock, and ferns were attractively arranged about the room, where comfortable chairs and sofas had been set informally for the visitors. A most enjoyable programme was presented. The Hon. Celia and the Hon. Mary Monckton, daughters of their Excellencies, Lord and Lady Galway, entertained with several enjoyable pianoforte duets, and other items were contributed by Mrs. Proust, who played violin solos to the accompaniment of Miss Gertrude Johnston, Miss Macintosh, who sang, and by Mrs. Stevens, who gave several pianoforte solos.
Before supper was served, the president of the ladies auxiliary, Mrs. D. M. Clarke, made a brief appeal for support in the drive which the auxiliary is making for the Blue Cross ambulance »for animals.
The cause is a very worthy one to which all lovers of animals should contribute. "Animal Week" is an instigation which should be well supported by the public, and an opportunity to do so will be provided at the end of the week, when a "shop day" will be held at 254 Lambton Quay. Other functions in connection with the movement have been advertised in "The Post."
