PRESIDENT IN 1940

MR. M. J. CASEY. NOMINATED

Mr. M. J. Casey, president or the Wellington Bowling Centre, was nominated by the executive of the Wellington Centre last evening for the office of vice-president of the New Zealand Bowling Associatiqn. By custom, Mr. Casey will become president of the New Zealand Bowling Association in 1940, when the Dominion tournament will be held in Wellington.

Mr. • J.. Kershaw, who proposed/ Mr. Casey, said that those who had worked with him on the centre appreciated his worth to the bowling world. Mr. Casey was a member of the centre executive; president of the centre, and president of the Thorndon Club. The bowlers of Wellington, and the bowlers of New Zealand would be well represented by him.

Mr. S. Ingram said their president was an ideal man for the position. He seconded the motion.

Supporting the nomination, Mr. S. M. Stone said Mr. Casey would be capable of carrying out the arduous duties that would be placed on his shoulders in 1940 and before that. time. Entries would exceed those for any tournament in the past, and he was quite sure at least 60 or 70 Australians would come to Wellington. Preparations should be made almost immediately and work continued up to the tournament. Provision of accommodation for the visitors would require attention for one thing.

' Mr. W. Gilbert also said he was pleased Mr. Casey's name had been put forward. ' The 1940 tournament would be the largest to be controlled by the centre.

No other nominee was proposed. Mr. Casey, thanking the centre, said the tournament would be the greatest the country had ever had.

• It was decided to nominate Messrs. Stone and Gilbert as North Island councillors of the association., An election is usually necesasry in the case of councillors.
