NORTHERLIES AGAIN SOON

Special forecast for Wellington:— Light to moderate south-easterly winds, but a change soon to northerlies, which will be freshening tomorrow. Weather fine and becoming warmer.

The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today for the ensuing 24 hours, is for light to moderate and variable winds, with -northerlies soon prevailing about and south of Cook Strait and later freshening. The weather will be fair to fine generally at first, with rising temperatures, but scattered rains are probable tomorrow in Westland and in the far south. • ' , An anticyclone now extends from the eastern Tasman Sea across the Dominion, highest pressure being to the south, but a rather intense depression is advancing on to the southwestern Tasman'Sea. South-easterly to southerly winds ruled yesterday and fresh south-easterliss are continuing in the Cook Strait area, but elsewhere by this morning winds were more ' variable in direction.. The weather for the most part has been fair to fine, but some light scattered rains have occurred" in the Auckland Province and on the east coast of the North Island, while Timaru also reported light Tain this morning. Temperatures have been cool to moderate. Auckland's, weather yesterday was fine and clear, with light and variable winds. About 2.30 a.m. .today, however, there was thunder and some rain. The maximum temperature yesterday, was 77.2 degrees and the minimum 63.8 degrees.

Wellington had a pleasant sunny day, with a cool southerly breeze. Hours of bright sunshine totalled 13.5, and the maximum and minimum temperatures were 62.9 and 50 degrees respectively. Overcast conditions have prevailed in Christchurch, a south-westerly breeze changing to the north-east during the afternoon. Yesterday's maximum temperature was 64.1 degrees and the minimum 53.2 degrees.

Dunedin had a cloudy morning, but the afternoon was sunny, the wind being a gentle novth-casterly breeze. At 9 a.m. today it was cloudy, with a light wind from the north.
