PRESIDENT AS FOOTBALLER
The present President of Czechoslovakia, Dr : .E. Benes, at one time was a football player and one of the most promising wings at Prague. As he then was Only sixteen, he might well have become an international representing his country not only at conferences but on the football field if a broken leg had not stopped his sports career and almost put a stop to his whole career. Being a high school boy, Benes was not allowed to belong to a club, but he played for the Slavia Club, and his accident revealed this "crime" to the school authorities. He was in danger of being sent down from the State school, but this was averted. Later he took his matriculation and his doctorate, and although football had caused him so much trouble he kept his love/for it. and did much for this' sport" in Czechoslovakia as Foreign Secretary as welL as President of the.
