One of the most important pictures on Paramount's 1938 schedule, "The Barrier,' soon to. be , released in New Zealand, had its world premiere at the Seattle Paramount Theatre in honour of whichv the Governor' of Washington performed the unprece-" dented act of issuing a proclamation designating the week during which . & c , ,im °Pened as "The Barrier Week for the entire State. In , his. proclamation, the Governor said- "I urge wide participation not only in appreciation of the fact that Washington was chosen to provide the colourful background for this picture, but also that -those of us who live in the btate and have not visited this great mountain may attain a better understanding and feel a- pardonable pride m the rugged beauty and cherm -of our own Mt. Baker, and the Mt. Baker country." All the, outdoor scenes of The Barrier" were made in t'lic vicinity of Mt. Baker.
