CRICKET
PROPOSED MATCH
WELLINGTON MINOR TEAM
' With regard to the proposed match i between the Auckland Plunket Shield side and a team from the Wellington minor associations, the chairman, Mr. W. R. Fee, reported at this week's meeting of the management committee of the Auckland Cricket Association that the suggestion has been made to the Wellington associations that the game should be played at Eden Park, commencing on February 25. The Auckland body felt that the match would attract a good gate, and in the matter of finances was prepared to allow the Wellington associations 60 per cent, of the net profits up to a maximum of £80. The contest would extend over three days.
Replying to the suggestion, Mr. A. M. Ongley, secretary of the Manawatu Association, wrote stating that he.had circularised the other minor associations concerned, and that on receipt of their replies he would give a deQnite indication as to whether the. proposition was acceptable. As far as Manawatu was concerned, every endeavour was being made to facilitate acceptance. Unfortunately, the dates suggested clashed with the dates tentatively arranged for South Auckland's Hawke Cup challenge, but the Waikato body had been asked to assist in the matter by postponing its fixture one week.
