CHRISTCHURCH GAS
NET PROFIT HIGHER
As announced in "The Post" on January 21 the Christchurch Gas Co. has declared a final half-yearly dividend of 4 per cent., making the usual 7 per cent, for the year. The annual report and balance-sheet show that the dividends will absorb £25,249 17s lOd leaving £8420 9s 6d to be carried forward. The statutory provision for depreciation has b'efrn made and the profit and loss account shows a balance ol £33,670 7s 4d.
Sales of gas, coke, tar, etc., realised £183,675, as. against £182,144 for the previous year, an increase of £1531. and the net profit was £27,785, as against £23,124, an increase of £4661. The amount written off for depreciation was £15,718 compared with £16,104 the'previous year. Material and wages for making and distributing gas cost £101,925, salaries, rent, insurance, bad debts, etc., accounted for £16,440, and rates and taxes £19,794.
