TRIALS AT ELLERSLIE

(Received. January 27, 1.30 p.m.) AUCKLAND, This Day. A feature of the track gallops for the Takapuna Meeting at Ellerslic this morning, was the attractive mile of Knight of Australia. . Others to lm.press were Stretto, Droll, Play On, and Rereatu. , Rain fell overnight and the going ■on the course proper, on which the flags were 45ft out from the rails, was cutting out slightly, nevertheless some good efforts were registered. * Captain Bruce and Bronze Ora were the first out, and there was little between them at the conclusion of half a mile, ! run in 52 Msec. .Captain Bruce appreciated the easier going. Knight of Australia was responsible for a firstclass trial mile, being assisted over the last half-mile by Bonnybelle. He ran the "first four furlongs in 52 2-ssec, and completed the full distance in lmin 45 4-ssec, beating his companion, who took 54; 3-sscc, by several lengths. Kilonsa, going well within herself, ran seven furlongs in lmin 37sec.

The best sprint of the morning was that registered by Strctto, who traversed five furlongs in Imin 4 3-ssec. She ran the first two in 25sec, and was1 being kept up to her work at the finish. Aero Queen impressed more than Trevacc when covering five furlongs in Imin 6sec, .the first two furlongs taking 25sec. Neil was sent over a mile and a quarter, running the last round in 2min 20 2-ssec, and the final seven furlongs in Imin 42 2-ssec. Royal Appellant was holding Gay Broney at the tend of a mile, which occupied Imin 48 3-ssec. The first halfmile was covered in 54 3-ssec.

There was little between Fleet Wind and Aero King'at the end of a fivefurlong sprint, run in Imin 4 3-ssec. Both these hacks impressed.

Pasture, Lady Defoe, and Kajanya were in that order at the conclusion of half a mile, which occupied 51 2-ssec. They had a fair amount of pace on -when they jumped off, run-ning-the first furlong in 12 2-ssec. Play On beat Privy Seal by several lengths over six furlongs in Imin 19 4-ssec. ,He ran his-flrst three furlongs in 39 3-ssec and was easing up at the finish. Silver Quex displayed a lot of dash when running half', a mile in 51 4-ssec.

Surella was clear of Mundane at the end of six furlongs in Imin 20 2-ssec, the first two in 25 2-ssec. Tybalt, who jumped ofi some distance behind the pair, ran seven furlongs in Imin 32 4-ssec.

Kereatu showed to advantage in the going by reeling off half a Mile in 50 4-ssec, the initial furlong being covered in 12 l-3sec. ,He was running on in good style at the finish. Thurlap got to the end of five furlongs in Imin 6 4-ssec.

There was little between Droll and Ring Shot, both of whom finished well clear of Viracious over seven furlongs in Imin 32sec, the first half-mile being covered in 51sec. Droll and King Shot both impressed.

Miss Mestor was just in front of Adsum after traversing a round in 2min 11 4-ssec, the lastr half-mile in 56 4-ssec.

United sprinted half a mile in 51 l-ssec. ■■-.''.'
