BEAU GALLANTE'S SISTER
Among "the1-, new sires' whose progeny brought big prices at the Sydney Easter •: Sales last year was the Colorado horse Melfort, and two of his first crop were secured for the Dominion. Coifort,.owned by Mr. W. Devon, of Masterton, has done nothing yet to justify the. 1000 guineas paid for him. A cheaper lot was Lady Melfort, who is due to make her debut at Pahiatua on Friday. Lady Melfort was bought at 220 guineas by the Melbourne trainer M. McGrath on behalf of Mr. J. Jameson, of Masterton. The filly is a bay daughter of the Maltster—Country Dance mare Carmagnole, hence she is no other than a half-sister to Beau Gallante, who has done well in the Dominion, and might have done much better if he had not been injured when just coming to his prime. Carmagnole was a winner in New South Wales before going to the stud, and two of her other progeny, Carnitop and Topmast, have also been winners.
