WATERLOO QUAY

PAVING ABOUT DUE

Amongst the general readjustments which will have to be made when the Thorndon Ramp takes the traffic which now goes via Thorndon Quay is the replacement of the existing sealing of Waterloo Quay to stand the heavier traffic. This section of street, though now used by the city, is largely under the control of the Wellington Harbour Board, and until recently it appeared that the permanent surfacing of this arterial road would await developments patiently. It is understood, however, that the City Council, the Harbour Board, and the Government, which are all concerned, are discussing the matter of the paving, with some prospect of deciding what is to be done about it. It is a work which will take some time when it has been commenced, and the paving season is passing rapidly, judging by the of the past few days. There i's also the paving of the new road, iVotea Quay, in connection with which Where is an arrangement with the rlail-w-ay Department. The ramp will not b<> ready until May, but other schemes connected with the handling of pedestrian and motor traffic near the station arc being considered, and it would be unfortunate if the paving of Waterloo Qua'v and Aotea Quay were not completed before the heavy traffic they will fcear shortens the hours of the day available for this work.
