TIMELY RAIN
RELIEF FOR GISBORNE
(By-"'Telegraph—Press Association.)
GISBORNE, January 24.
A threatened drought in Gisborrie was averted today when, after five weeks of , dry1 weather and high temperatures,, rain.' fell for two or three hours, but a fierce sun at noon soon saw the lands dry once more. Towards 5 p.m. the sky : became overcast again, and heavy north-east rain fell, and tonight .showed no signs of cessation.
The rain is badly needed, as residents on the flats have been carting water for weeks. Reports from the backblofaks state that rain is general throughout the district. It should prove invaluable to the dairying and fruit' industries.
