"CONTINGENTERS" SING FOR 8.8.C.
Thirty-two members'of the contingent that represented the Australian Forces at the Coronation-and'seven members of the contingent- of British South African Police from Rhodesia took part recently in a. community-singing broadcast from Daventry. They were conducted in some of the old Army choruses by Joseph liewis, the 8.8.C. conductor, and were, accompanied on the organ by Harry Vowles, "of the 8.8.C.'s Empire Department, who spent many years in Australia —he was a music-master at Guildford Grammar School, viola player in the Metropolitan String' Quartet, and was frequently heard in broadcasts from the Australian stations. Variety was added to the programme 'by Kitty Reidy, ' the well-known Australian' variety artist, who sang a number of popular songs. Two broadcasters popular among Empire listeners, Henry Hall and Howard Marshall, seized the opportunity : of meeting some of, their overseas, listeners and were present at the studio during part of the broadcast.
