BUSY ACTRESS.
Gladys George, who has been appearing in the New York production of "Personal Appearance," and who has made a successful screen debut in "Valiant is the Word for Carrie," was christened Gladys Clare, but at the early age of six became eager to have a stage name. At this time she was doing a song-and-dahce turn in a vaudeville act with her father and mother, and when the small miss wanted a stage name, they decided to let her have one; the child was devoted to her grandfather, whose name was George W. Hazen, and after some deliberation she announced she would like to have her name on the billboard as "Gladys George W. Hazen." They let her keep the George part, and she has used it ever since. She likes parts she can put her teeth into. At 17 she played lead in "Smilin1 Thru," and was associated with Pauline Frederick in "As Husbands Go," but in "Personal Appearance" she has scored a conspicuous success. Miss George is booked for some years yet, and what with stage and screen appointments, will be a busy woman for some time to come.
