The report of the; directors of _ the Norwich Union Fire Insurance Society, Ltd, for. the year ended December 31. 1936 shows that' the fire • account's net premiums amounted to-£1,636,947 ana the net claims. paid and outstanding to £741,357. After ■ meeting all charges and setting aside 40 per cent, of the premium income as reserve for unexpired- risks, the sum of £88,604 has been transferred to profit and loss. The accident . and general account shows that the net premiums amounted to £1,417,193, a decrease of. £36,369 as compared with 1935, an increase in the home business being more than offset by a further reduction made in the U.S.A. casualty business in accordance with the board's policy. The net claims paid and . outstanding amounted to £795,863. Providing fox all charges and setting, aside 40 per cent, of the premium income as reserve for unexpired risks, the sum. of . .£.77,581 has been transferred to profit and loss. The marine department . net premiums amount to £173,905, which with the balance brought forward make a total of £327,896. Claims for- • 1936 and previous years were £116,187. The marine . fund amounts .to £180,28,,, which is-more than sufficient to meet all anticipated liabilities. Assets, £5,814,544.
