Buried under three tons of scoria and trapped in the cabin of his lorry, Leonard Hunter had an amazing escape this morning when a sudden landslide overwhelmed him in the quarry at- Mount Roskill. Two companions, William Fennessey' and H. Ingham, were almost, swept to death as the landslide rushed down the steep face. None of the men were seriously injured.
The lorry driver lay buried for over an hour but did not1 suffer even a cut. Fenhessey, who started to slide with the.;fall and was pulled out-of danger by Ingham, was struck by some rubble and -was taken to hospital suffering from shock and . abrasions.
