A DANGEROUS LENGTH

Following a suggestion made by Mr, E. Palliser yesterday, the City and Suburban Highways Board has asked the City Engineer to make an investigation into the lighting of a length of roadway between Lower Hutt and Taita. Mr. Palliser said that several accidents had taken place there recently, for, though there were footpaths, bus passengers walked on the roadway. Possibly the present lighting was inadequate or was not well placed. The chairman (Councillor W. Appleton) said that the board did not control that length of roadway.

Mr. Palliser agreed, but said that the position was serious, and the engineer might make a report, upon which the board could decide whether it should make representations to the Hutt County Council. The proposal was agreed to.
