REFEREES' ATTIRE
WEARING OF BLAZERS
UNION'S RECOMMENDATION
(By Telegraph—i'res9 Association.)
CHRISTGHURCH", This Day.
Reasons for referees of Rugby games sometimes wearing clothing additional to that provided in the ' regulations were given by Mr.R. J. G. Collins to the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last night. :
Complaint had been, made by Mr. W. A. Britten that a referee in a game on Saturday had worn a coloured blazer over the. regulation white jersey and shorts. ■• Aplayer would not be allowed to.do it, said Mr. Britten, and referees should observe the regulations.
A suggestion that, referees wore blazers because they were "not keptmoving enough to' keep them warm drew laughter, but' Mr. Coiliris gave a serious explanation.^ Blazers were permitted under the rules, he said, and some referees "./ore them bcause they were subject to colds and others, because they, had been awarded All Black referees' jerseys for refereeing in a. Test match. • . ■ .
In spite of a protest from one member that the complaint was "making a mountain out of a molehill," a recommendation was finally carried that referees should wear correct attire whenever possible.
