RACING RIGHTS CONCEDED
Consequent on the refusal of the nomination of Thankerton (third in an English Derby) for races in America because he was half-bred, the following proposed amendment of the Rules of Racing was submitted to a meeting of the Jockey Club in New York recently: "If ineligible for registration under Rules 64 and 69, horses foaled outside the -United States afld •Canada, which have a satisfactory raging record, may be submitted solely for racing, purposes when identified by and accompanied by a written statement of the recognised governing body of the country from which they come to the effect that they have been regularly raced on courses under its jurisdiction, whereupon the registrar may, if so authorised, at a meeting of the Jockey Club, issue a permit granting racing privileges only." Application for such licensing must be made within 30 days after the arrival of .an imported halfbred in America, with a £10 fee. Under certain conditions (his may be lengthened to three months, but the fee is then increased to £40.
